The ConCourt reserves judgment in Sassa’s application in the social grants saga

March 7, 2018

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Constitutional Court reserved judgment in social security agency Sassa’s application for the extension of Cash Paymaster Services’ invalid contract for the distribution of social grants. The contract expires at the end of the month, but Sassa argued that it needs more time to migrate the system to the SA Post Office. The Post Office told the court yesterday that it was ready to take over, but with the help of CPS. The judges accused Sassa of blackmailing the court, saying the agency realized in December that there would be a problem and shouldn’t have waited with the application till last month.
