Fuel price hikes expected to hit motorists hard in May

April 16, 2018

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Automobile Association is warning motorists in the Vaal and across the country of another possible fuel increase at the beginning of next month. The predicted increase comes on the back of a 72 cents increase this month. Mid-month fuel price data shows a petrol price increase of around 41 cents a litre, while diesel prices are likely to rise by around 48 cents and illuminating paraffin by 38 cents. AA says prolonged instability in the Middle East could drive international petroleum prices higher. It said petroleum prices were largely flat in the first week of April, but spiked sharply as tensions escalated in Syria. The Middle East lies near many of the world's key oil producers, and petroleum prices have historically been sensitive to instability in the region.
