Emfuleni Mayor withdraws his intention to resign

June 8, 2018

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Emfuleni Local Municipality says the Executive Mayor, Councillor Jacob Khawe, has withdrawn his intention to resign. Municipal spokesperson, Stanley Gaba, today said in a statement in pursuit of stability and improvement of service delivery in Emfuleni, Khawe decided to put the residents of the municipality first by withdrawing his intention to resign. This follows weeks of speculation about Khawe’s future in Emfuleni. Upon his return from official visits outside the country, the mayor announced his readiness and willingness to continue working to turn the municipality around. Gaba said the mayor, members of the mayoral committee and the senior management team will now work with officials from the province after it announced its decision to intervene and assist the municipality in meeting its service delivery obligations. He said all municipal operations and activities – from the administration to service delivery departments – remain active. The municipality apologised for the confusion, anxiety and speculation which inconvenienced residents in recent weeks.
