Taxi associations meeting with Sharpeville SAPS today after protests yesterday

July 18, 2018

VEREENIGING - The Boipatong SAPS says Merriman Avenue in Vereeniging has been cleared after it was affected by a taxi driver protest yesterday. Police spokesperson, Sergeant TS Koago, yesterday afternoon said in an emailed reply to 90.6 FM News that the drivers handed over a memorandum of grievances while the SAPS was monitoring the situation. Koago said the taxi drivers were protesting because certain individuals that do not belong to the taxi association are forcing drivers to pay money to use certain roads. He said a meeting will be held between the taxi associations and the Sharpeville SAPS today.
