VAAL TRIANGLE - Eskom has warned that there is a high risk of load shedding for today due to a shortage of capacity due to the loss of generating units at its power stations. The power utility says that it will only implement the rolling power cuts if absolutely necessary. Eskom has been battling with aging infrastructure, which needs major maintenance to perform efficiently. Energy Intensive Users Group of South Africa last month said regular supply interruptions are creating uncertainty that endangers businesses that are highly dependent on Eskom. It is estimated that power cuts may cost the country as much as R5 billion a day.
