VAAL TRIANGLE - The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) has welcomed the renewed promises of funding for the Vaal River intervention. Water and Sanitation Minister Gugile Nkwinti revealed that R341-million had been allocated for the Vaal River Rehabilitation project. The project began last year after raw sewage flowed into the river from pump stations in the Emfuleni Municipality on the northern bank of the river, posing environmental and health risks. Outa says it is concerned that there are no clear guidelines for the approval of the rest of the funds. The project is budgeted to cost R1.2-billion.
