VEREENIGING - The Vereeniging SAPS has issued a warning to community members after a schoolgirl was held at gunpoint at her home in Duncanville. Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda, said in a statement the girl was home alone reading school books when she decided to take a break and went outside. Funda says there she was confronted by two unknown suspects who held her at gunpoint. She screamed for help and went to the back of the house where she encountered two other also armed with firearms, who then entered the house. Funda said the girl’s mother arrived home just in time to see a VW Polo vehicle pulling out of their driveway at high speed. He said the suspects stole a flat screen TV set, a safe and other household goods. The SAPS in Vereeniging warned community members to always keep their gates and doors locked to prevent robbers from getting easy access to their homes.
