Sassa freezes the bank accounts of 2,800 beneficiaries

July 3, 2019

VAAL TRIANGLE - South Africa’s Social Security Agency (Sassa) has frozen the bank accounts of almost three thousand beneficiaries after potential fraud was picked up in relation to the accounts. Sassa says the beneficiaries will not be able to draw money for the current payment cycle, and possibly subsequent cycles. eNCA reports that the agency appealed to affected beneficiaries to go to Sassa offices with their IDs and affidavits in order to reopen their accounts. Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi said it will, unfortunately, be an inconvenience to the affected beneficiaries, but they have to go through this particular process to rectify the situation.
