VAAL TRIANGLE - Vaal Triangle residents have been urged to support the annual Junior Basketball Tournament organised by Sasol and NWU Vaal this weekend. Sasol’s Senior Manage for Communication, Karin Fourie, today said in a statement the tournament will take place from 12 – 14 July 2019 at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Sport Centre in Zamdela, Metsimaholo and the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in Vanderbijlpark. Fourie said nine girls’ and 17 boys’ teams will compete for the trophies. She said competition is expected to be quite strong this year, with four sides travelling to the Vaal from as far as Limpopo. According to Fourie, basketball fans can look forward to seeing girls’ and boys’ sides from Cedar Secondary School in Zamdela in action, while a boys’ side from Parys will also take to the courts. University teams from NWU Vaal, Wits and UJ will also compete.
Play will start at 17:00 on Friday afternoon at the Harry Gwala Centre and continue on Saturday at 08:00 at Harry Gwala as well as VUT. On Sunday, the quarterfinals for boys will be played at VUT from 08:00. The four semi-finals and two final matches will be played on Sunday at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Sport Centre in Zamdela. The first of these games will start at 09:30 when the girls’ semi-finalists will battle it out.
