VANDERBIJLPARK - Paramedics say a woman sustained serious burn injuries and a man was seriously assaulted at a block of flats on Becquerel Road in Vanderbijlpark yesterday. ER24 says their paramedics arrived on the scene to find the two patients in the court of the flats surrounded by local authorities and Provincial Services. Medics assessed the patients and found the woman sustained serious burn wounds to her chest, back and arms while the man had sustained soft tissue injuries over most of his body. Medics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to a nearby provincial hospital for further care.
Meanwhile, some details emerged about the incident. The Sedibeng Ster reports they were indoors when the woman's boyfriend allegedly doused her with paraffin and set her alight. She then involuntarily clutched at him, setting him alight too, whereafter the screaming pair rushed outside and were stopped by concerned neighbours. According to the report, police spokesperson, Captain Teboho Lephoto, confirmed that a 48-year-old suspect was caught by the neighbours and handed to the police. He will be charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend.
