City power and the Gauteng government make a deal for residents.

VANDERBIJLPARK - City Power in Gauteng is set to combat frequent power outages with a transformative plan. The initiative involves the installation of solar-powered high mast lights in selected municipalities including Emfuleni, Sedibeng and Rand West, starting next month. This comes after a strategic agreement between the Gauteng government and City Power to furnish residents with robust power generation solutions. Gauteng's MEC for finance, Jacob Mamabolo, unveiled this vision during the medium-term budget policy statement on Tuesday, citing a substantial budget increase of R4.5 billion for energy projects. The plan focuses on amplifying services in townships, informal settlements, and hotel areas, emphasizing renewable energy installations, especially in health facilities. City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena revealed part of the provincial energy plan is to recommission gas turbines as part of their strategy to mitigate load shedding. SowetanLive reports City Power has already initiated various solutions like solar lighting systems, transformers, substations, and smart metering technologies in several areas including Orange Farm in the Vaal Triangle and stands prepared to extend them further, fostering a hopeful reduction in power disruptions across the province.
