117 arrested in Sedibeng during high-impact Operation Shanela

SEDIBENG - The Sedibeng SAPS launched a high-intensity crime-fighting operation on Saturday, 19 July, as part of Operation Shanela. The focus was on law enforcement and boosting police visibility in Orange Farm and Poortjie. Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Nkhwashu, led a multi-disciplinary team made up of SAPS members, Home Affairs, Gauteng Traffic, Community Safety, CPF patrollers and others. The joint operation led to the arrest of 117 suspects for various crimes. This included 24 arrested for drinking and driving, and seven illegal immigrants. Authorities also issued 21 traffic fines and AARTO infringement notices to non-compliant drivers. Sedibeng District Detectives led the first phase of the operation, arresting 78 suspects linked to serious crimes including murder, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, domestic violence and gender-based violence. Police say these results are the outcome of strategic planning and heightened visibility to reduce crime in the area.
