59 fewer murders as almost 7,000 murdered in three months

VAAL TRIANGLE - There were 59 fewer murders in July to September this year in comparison to the same period last year. This was revealed in the latest crime statistics released by the police. Sexual offences were down by 1.5%, rape by 0.7% and sexual assault by 2.5%. Attempted murder cases increased by 12.3% and robberies at residential premises are also up by 3.8%. In the three months between July and September 2023, 6 945 South Africans were murdered. This number is slightly lower (59) than the 7 004 people who were killed in the same reporting period in 2022. Further to this, 13 090 people suffered sexual assault while 42 297 others were seriously assaulted.
