A shortage of chicken and eggs due to avian flu may persist until the end of next month

VAAL TRIANGLE - The South African Poultry Association has warned that a shortage of chicken and eggs due to avian flu may persist until the end of next month. A new strain, H-7-N-6, has exacerbated the crisis, particularly in Gauteng and Mpumalanga, resulting in significant chicken losses and a decrease of up to 20% in national production. The association says it will be able to restock the farms as soon as the avian flu starts to diminish, adding that inter-provincial trade would also help to curb the shortage in the coming months.
