VAAL TRIANGLE -The South African Veterinary Association Poultry Group has warned that a six-month shortage of chicken and eggs is looming for the country. This is a consequence of the avian flu outbreak and insufficient effective biosecurity measures. Producers are resorting to various strategies to address the challenges, such as sharing hatchlings and relocating operations to provinces unaffected by the flu. The group’s chairperson, Wilhelm Mare, has called for the availability of vaccines to help manage the disease’s spread.
