ActionSA Emfuleni says R28 million spent on Boipatong Old Age Home with no progress

BOIPATONG - ActionSA in Emfuleni says R28 million has already been spent on the Boipatong Old Age Home in the Vaal, yet construction has not progressed. ActionSA Emfuleni Regional Chairperson, Bongani Dhlamini, said in a statement they are outraged that millions have been spent, but there is no progress and no elderly residents are benefiting from the stalled project. Dlamini said the project, launched by the Emfuleni Local Municipality in 2015, has been plagued by delays, from contractor failures and poor administration to community unrest. He said planning came to a halt nearly a decade later after the late discovery of a gas pipeline beneath the site. According to Dhlamini, the Boipatong Old Age Home debacle highlights the ANC-led government’s disregard for residents' well-being and blatant misuse of public funds, adding that those responsible must be held accountable. The latest promise by the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) is that the project may now be completed by the end of 2026, if all conditions are favourable.
