ActionSA encourages VUT to exercise merit in their executive recruitment process

VANDERBIJLPARK - ActionSA encouraged the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in Vanderbijlpark to exercise merit in the recruitment of Senior Executive Managers, to help advance the institution from its so-called difficult past. ActionSA Team FixSA Member for Higher Education, Dr Tutu Faleni, said in a statement the recruitment process at VUT follows recommendations by the report of the Administrator which included important directives such as the need for VUT to appoint a Vice-Chancellor. Faleni said ActionSA is of the view that current recruitment drive of senior executives by the council and management of VUT provides the institution with a golden opportunity to completely break away from its difficult past and set itself on a path towards fulfilling its core mandate of providing quality higher education to the people of South Africa. According to Faleni, VUT’s difficult past is characterised by having been placed under administration three times in a space of twenty years, with an administrator executing the institution’s important executive management processes for a period of two years. This significant recruitment process has the potential to accelerate the joint efforts of the VUT Council and other stakeholders to move the university towards sound governance and efficient administration through the appointment of two Deputy Vice Chancellors and two Executive Directors.
