All firebreaks in Midvaal area prohibited with immediate effect

MIDVAAL - The Midvaal Local Municipality has announced that all firebreaks are prohibited with immediate effect. The municipality said in a notice that the fire season has grown into its final stages, and we have entered a period where the wind may cause run-away veld fires. Therefore, all firebreaks are prohibited from here on out. MLM said Chapter 7 of The National Veld & Forest Fire Act sets out the relevant offenses in terms of the Act and the penalties applicable. Failure to comply with the above stipulation may result in a second category offense, which is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for a period of up to one year, or both. Midvaal said the safety of the community is their top priority and therefore they appeal to residents to comply. The municipality thanked residents for their cooperation.
