ANC holds Ward 35 amid MK surge in Sebokeng by-election

ANC candidate Chakane Petrus Mohlammme secured just 38% of the vote—down from 54% in 2021. The newly formed MK Party emerged as a major contender, with candidate Sajini David Tshabalala earning 21%, placing second in this traditional ANC stronghold. a local political analyst observing the election, Sipho Dlamini said this result shows a township that is no longer voting out of loyalty and that residents are demanding change. The DA and Patriotic Alliance each claimed 12%, while the EFF plummeted to 8% from 22% in the previous election. Voter turnout dropped to 37%, reflecting growing political fatigue.
