Another pupil from Tharabollo Secondary School in Evaton stabbed to death

EVATON - An 18-year-old Grade 11 pupil from the Tharabollo Secondary School in Evaton, Vereeniging, Thabo Motaung, was stabbed to death, last week Thursday. This incident marks the second murder within the school premises in just over 10 months, both suspected to be linked to local gang activities. It is alleged that Motaung was fatally stabbed by an 18-year-old student from a neighboring school. Sources close to the investigation suggest the murder is connected to ongoing gang violence in the area, with learners associated with rival gangs operating from Orange Farm and Evaton West. Caxton News reports learners from the Tharabollo school forcibly entered the Lakeside school premises, damaging the school’s gates and windows in the process. Lakeside learners then retaliated by going to the Tharabollo school grounds where Motaung was stabbed in the process. He succumbed to his injuries at Sebokeng Hospital. According to police spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto, an 18-year-old suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing. A similar incident happened last July, when Grade 10 student Thabo Xaba lost his life in a fatal stabbing, also reportedly over gang-affiliated disputes.
