Beef producer confirms foot and mouth disease outbreak

HEIDELBERG - South Africa’s largest beef producer, Karan Beef, has confirmed the discovery of the foot and mouth disease in Heidelberg in the Vaal Triangle. The company expects the discovery to reduce its beef production by more than 50%. Karan Beef slaughters an estimated two-thousand animals every day. Quarantine measures have now been implemented, and the company will not slaughter animals at the Heidelberg feedlot for now.
