MEYERTON - Alley Roads, a leading affordable housing developer, and Blue Energy Africa, a clean energy utility operator, have announced the implementation of a hybrid energy solution for Riverstone Mall in Meyerton, in the Vaal Triangle. This announcement comes as the R370-million, first-phase development of Riverstone Mall nears completion. Ivan Pretorius, CEO of Alley Roads, highlighted the mall’s ability to operate mostly independently from the national power grid. This not only ensures an uninterrupted shopping experience but importantly, shields the tenants from ongoing rate increases by the national utility provider. Blue Energy Africa will install a ~5.0MWh battery, one of the country’s largest, supported by a 2.3MWp photovoltaic (PV) photovoltaic panel system. CTO Jan van Ravenswaay emphasized the project's role in sustainable energy and reduced carbon emissions, with savings of over 4,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. Pretorius says Alley Roads aims to minimize Riverstone Mall’s carbon footprint. The mall is set to open in March 2025.
