VANDERBIJLPARK - The Vanderbijlpark SAPS says a Bophelong man was sentenced to life imprisonment after killing his girlfriend and hiding her body under his bed. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu, said in a statement sent to 90.6 FM News that their Bophelong satellite police station received a complaint about an alleged murder on 29 August 2023. When police members and paramedics arrived at the scene, the victim was found with multiple stab wounds to her body and declared dead on the scene. The perpetrator was already on the run. Sigcu said the accused tried to hide the victim’s body under his bed in a back room after she was killed. He said the accused was arrested that same day with the help of community members. Investigation by police detectives yielded positive results as the accused, Mpho Mangweni, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Gauteng High Court. Sigcu said the sentence highly proves their zero-tolerance approach to Gender Based Violence and Femicide in our country at large.
