Cable Theft turns fatal in Henley-on-Klip as man electrocuted

MEYERTON - The Meyerton SAPS is investigating the death of an unidentified man who was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal electrical cables from a railway line in Henley-on-Klip. Police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini says officers were called to the scene around 14:00 on Thursday, where they discovered the man’s body near the railway tracks. The deceased was wearing a black, red, and white Adidas tracksuit trouser, a blue tracksuit top, and black Adidas takkies. Preliminary investigations suggest he was cutting live cables when he was fatally electrocuted. He died on the scene. The man’s body was transported to Sebokeng Government Mortuary for further investigation. Property damage was also reported, as part of the railway cable had already been cut. Police have opened an inquest docket and are appealing to anyone with information that could help identify the deceased to contact Meyerton SAPS at 016 362 9012 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
