VAAL TRIANGLE - Cybersecurity expert Richard Frost advises Vaal Triangle and other South African consumers to disable the "tap" functionality on their bank cards to prevent fraudulent transactions. This as criminals continue to exploit tap-to-pay convenience at South African petrol stations, duplicating transactions as victims make payments. Frost warns of scammers using portable card machines to siphon funds unnoticed. To safeguard against fraud, he urges the use of PINs, or opting for cellphone payments with enhanced security features. He said smartphone payments impose limits and provide additional security layers compared to bank cards.
