Contaminated Water issue Evaton resolved

EVATON - Rand Water assures residents that the contamination affecting drinking water in the Greater Evaton area has been resolved. Following complaints from communities in late March, an investigation led by experts from Rand Water and Emfuleni Local Municipality identified leaking sewerage pipes as the root cause. Both sewerage and drinking water pipes were replaced, and the affected areas were thoroughly disinfected. In a joint statement, Rand Water and the Emfuleni Local Municipality said an investigation into the water contamination was launched following complaints from the communities on 28 and 30 March 2024, respectively. Water quality tests conducted by Rand Water's accredited laboratory confirmed that the water now meets the South African National Standard (SANS) 241 for drinking water. Roaming water tankers were provided during the process, ensuring access to clean water. With the issue resolved, these services will be withdrawn from affected areas. Rand Water and the municipality reaffirm their commitment to providing safe drinking water to the community.
