SASOLBURG - The DA is urgently seeking another oversight meeting with the Metsimaholo Local Municipality to address concerns around the Wonderfontein development project in Sasolburg North. Key municipal officials, including the Directors of Human Settlement and Technical Services, have been called upon to answer critical questions regarding this project’s compliance with municipal standards to prevent substandard infrastructure. During a recent oversight visit, junior managers, who were standing in for absent senior directors, struggled to address essential inquiries. The DA caucus highlighted that despite prior notice, these representatives could not confirm basic details, such as the designated site for crucial facilities like the water treatment plant and reservoir. Nor could they verify if the current electricity supply can support the planned 7,000 housing units. The DA has raised serious concerns over the project’s alignment with regulatory standards, noting potential risks for residents if infrastructure isn’t up to code. The party calls for strict accountability and plans to write to the municipal manager to secure a follow-up meeting with all necessary officials.
