DA says Metsimaholo continues to fail in local economic development

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Democratic Alliance in Metsimaholo says the local municipality, which services areas like Sasolburg and Deneysville, continues to fail in its responsibility to support local economic development amidst the deepening economic crises and increasing unemployment. DA Caucus Chairperson in Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Thulani Mbana, said in a statement Metsimaholo has a huge potential in the tourism sector due to its vast attraction sites, Vaal Dam activities and resorts. According to Mbana, during the DA-led administration, major strides were made to revive tourism in the municipality, which includes founding tourism stakeholder committees, partnerships with national and provincial tourism to establish a “Business excellence initiative program” and participation in the “Vaal Spatial Economic Zone”. Mbana said these initiatives were meant to unlock development, generate millions in revenue and revive the tourism sector. However, he says since the DA was removed from local government, they have noticed a serious decline in these efforts, which the DA believes is due to lack of political will.
