DE DEUR - The SAPS, the Emfuleni Health Department, Gauteng traffic wardens and Siyabangena patrollers raided shops in the De Deur area on Tuesday, 10 June. Rea Gazette reports the operation, focused on food safety and regulatory compliance, led to inspections at 17 stores in Roshnee. Four stores were fined for failing to meet health and trading standards. Authorities seized unmarked and unsafe food items worth R15,000, which were later destroyed with the help of the Emfuleni waste department in Vereeniging. Increased police presence also resulted in several arrests. Two suspects were caught with illegal drugs, two were undocumented foreign nationals, and two others were detained for illegal use of another person's property. Lt. Colonel Anver Hammond praised the operation's success, while SAPS spokesperson Constable Mampho Mahlomola warned shop owners that unannounced inspections would continue.
