De Deur SAPS issues hijacking alert for R557 and Grasmere Road

DE DEUR - The De Deur SAPS has issued a warning to motorists using the R557 and Grasmere Road following a series of hijackings reported in the area. The alert comes after several incidents involving a group of unidentified suspects targeting vehicles, particularly in isolated or poorly lit areas. According to SAPS spokesperson Constable Mampho Mahlomola, police patrols have been intensified along these routes to deter criminal activity and protect road users. Motorists are urged not to stop along these roads, especially at night or in quiet stretches, even for short breaks, as this increases vulnerability to attacks. SAPS is calling on the public to remain alert and report any suspicious persons or unfamiliar vehicles seen loitering in the vicinity to their nearest police station.
