VANDERBIJLPARK - Emfuleni Local Municipality has stepped up its revenue collection efforts, targeting over 100 non-paying consumers in Riverbend by disconnecting their electricity supply. The affected properties collectively owe the municipality an estimated R20 million. During the operation, municipal officials also uncovered several illegal electricity connections in the area, further exacerbating the municipality's financial challenges. This power cut initiative is part of a broader campaign launched by the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance and Revenue, Councillor Hassan Mako, on Monday, 5 August. The operation is specifically aimed at curbing electricity theft and addressing the issue of unpaid municipal services. According to MMC Mako, the program will be rolled out across all areas serviced by the municipality, with the goal of ensuring that every household and business complies with their financial obligations to the municipality.
