VANDERBIJLPARK - The Emfuleni Local Municipality has noted with dismay the rumours and unfounded reports about a cholera outbreak in our area. The municipality would like to put it on record that these reports are false and face. In a voice note circulated in one of the popular social media platforms, the messenger alleges that ELM tap water is not safe for human consumption. ELM dismissed these cholera outbreak reports as fake news aimed at causing needless panic in Emfuleni. The municipality says, through its water and sanitation services unit Metsi-a-Lekoa, 20 water samples at various points across the network are taken for laboratory testing each month and he can confirm that the Emfuleni water supply network tests negative for cholera. This means that all the water samples are compliant with the South African National Standards 241 Drinking water Specifications. ELM urged residents who have concerns about their health due to the voice note in question to visit their nearest public health facility for a checkup.
