Emfuleni residents slam R15-million cemetery spend amid graveyard neglect

VANDERRBIJLPARK - Residents in Emfuleni are outraged over the municipality’s cemetery maintenance project worth R15-million, calling it a waste as graveyards remain in shocking condition. Families say their loved ones are being disrespected. Many believe the funds were misused, claiming cosmetic changes were prioritised over real infrastructure repairs. Community leaders are now demanding transparency and a full audit of the project’s budget. The municipality responded, blaming delays on contractors and logistics. Residents are now planning to approach the Public Protector and to seek legal action—insisting that the dignity of the deceased must be protected at all costs.
