Emfuleni's traffic control derails after loss of equipment and data

VANDERBIJLPARK - The Emfuleni Local Municipality's traffic department is facing a major crisis after a service provider removed its traffic control equipment and data due to non-payment. The affected areas include Evaton, Sebokeng, Vaal Oewer, Vanderbijlpark, and Vereeniging. The removed equipment includes speed cameras and accident recording cameras. As a result, the department has lost access to information on outstanding fines issued between 2021 and July 16, 2024. A new system was implemented on July 16, but the disruption is still significant. The Freedom Front Plus has expressed concern that the lack of effective traffic control could lead to increased traffic violations. The Emfuleni Municipality's financial mismanagement has led to several service providers not being paid.
