VANDERBIJLPARK - Thousands of Emfuleni Local Municipality employees face unpaid salaries after Eskom froze four municipal bank accounts over an R8-billion debt. The municipality approached the Gauteng High Court, seeking to lift the attachment before payday on September 25. Emfuleni owes Eskom ten-percent of the total R82-billion municipal debt. Emfuleni mayoral committee member for Finance Hassan Mako cited high unemployment as a key factor behind Emfuleni's revenue challenges.
