Environmental protestors disrupt Sasol’s Annual General Meeting

SASOLBURG - Sasol says the annual general meeting which had been convened to take place on Friday, 17 November 2023, at Sasol Place in Sandton, could not take place due to disruption by protestors. Sasol, which has a company in Sasolburg in the Vaal Triangle as well, said in a statement the chairman accommodated the protesters and even invited them to a meeting with representatives of the Sasol Board, which was declined. The organisation said once it became clear the protesters would not accommodate the effective participation of other shareholders, cancelling the meeting became the only prudent option, as the Chairman was inhibited from effectively communicating with the shareholders present at the meeting. Sasol said the protestors voluntarily dispersed without any incident after the meeting was cancelled. Environmental grouping Extinction Rebellion confirmed to Moneyweb that it staged the protest at the AGM. Extinction Rebellion is concerned about Sasol’s emissions of greenhouse gases.
