Eskom attaches Emfuleni's bank accounts to recover R8-billion in arrear debt

VAAL TRIANGLE - Eskom says the Sheriff of the Court has successfully attached Emfuleni Municipality’s four bank accounts to ensure that the money collected for electricity is paid directly to the power utility. As of the 31st of August, the municipality owed Eskom over R8-billion for bulk electricity, placing Emfuleni among the top three municipalities in debt to the utility. Eskom’s spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says Emfuleni failed to comply with the requirements of the National Treasury debt relief programme.
