FF Plus says government must disclose how much money Emfuleni received since 2018

VAAL TRIANGLE - The FF Plus asked for a comprehensive report to be submitted to the council of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, detailing how much money the Municipality has received from national government in the form of financial lifelines since 2018. FF Plus Emfuleni Councilor, Gerda Senekal, said in a statement President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, paid an oversight visit to Emfuleni last Friday to check on the progress of the provincial and national governments’ intervention plan. Senekal said Ramaphosa visited Emfuleni last year as well and promised to build 40 roads in the Municipality, but nothing came of it. She said a further R1,1 billion was also promised to repair and upgrade the water system, but so far, only R260 million has been received. The FF Plus wants to know where the rest of the money is and why the roads have not been built as promised.

Senekal said in his speech, Lesufi advised Emfuleni to use its budget funds wisely, but the Municipality has had an unfunded budget for the last six years and the money coffers are empty. She said even though Lesufi tried to paint Emfuleni in a positive light, raw sewage is still flowing in the streets, rivers are being polluted and residents are increasingly affected by power outages. According to Senekal, Ramaphosa and Lesufi’s visit to Emfuleni was just another ANC government election gimmick of making promises that come to nothing. PHOTOS: (Gauteng Provincial Government)
