SEDIBENG - Four suspects were killed in a high-stakes shootout with police following an attempted business robbery in the Vaal Triangle, Saturday morning. Acting on intelligence about suspects planning to commit a business robbery in the Sedibeng area, the SAPS launched a takedown operation on the R59 after Swartkoppies Road, where the suspects were intercepted. A joint operational team attempted to stop the suspects' vehicle, a Toyota Corolla with four occupants. Upon confrontation, the suspects allegedly opened fire on police, leading officers to return fire. During the exchange, the Corolla lost control and capsized, leaving all four suspects fatally wounded. Police confirmed finding one firearm inside the vehicle, with no injuries reported among the operational team. Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni noted that the operation underscored the SAPS' readiness to counter violent crime in the province. Investigations are underway to determine any connections between the suspects and other recent robberies in the area.
