Gauteng IEC says printing of ballots is already underway

VAAL TRIANGLE - Gauteng Police Commissioner, Tommy Mthombeni, says all systems are in place to ensure the elections are held in a safe environment. There are 2,797 voting stations in 529 wards in Gauteng. Of these, 168 have been categorised as high risk and 377 as medium risk. Mthombeni says intelligence structures within the police have been hard at work since the announcement of the May 29 election date.

Meanwhile, Gauteng's Provincial Electoral Official, Thabo Masemola, has confirmed the printing of ballots is already underway. The commission hosted a ceremony where political parties and independent candidates contesting in Gauteng signed the Electoral Code of Conduct. Masemola says preparations for the May 29 elections are at an advanced stage. He told candidates the delivery of electoral materials to the provincial warehouse has commenced and will be concluded within the reasonable timelines.
