Gauteng Names Committee in Vereeniging to engage community on geographical renaming

VEREENIGING - The Gauteng Geographical Names Committee (GGNC) will be at the Vereeniging City Hall in Sedibeng from tomorrow, 6 February to Thursday, 8 February 2024, from 09:00 – 12:00, for its last quarterly meeting of the financial year. Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation spokesperson, Nomazwe Ntlokwana, said in a statement the Committee will use the first day of their scheduled 3-day meeting on the 6th to engage and educate local communities and stakeholders on the processes of naming and renaming of geographical features and objects. Ntlokwana said the education process is necessary to avoid delays caused by correct procedures not being followed by applicants. She said the remaining days will be used to reflect and discuss the Committee’s Operational Plans for the new 2024/5 financial year; among others. The GGNC provides support and advises local authorities on matters regarding the names of geographical features in the province such as streets, buildings, parks and more. The Quarterly Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 07 and Thursday, 08 February 2024, at the Emerald Resort and Casino.
