BOPHELONG - The Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, visited Bophelong in the Vaal Triangle yesterday to oversee the switch on of transformers in the area and issued an apology to residents. The Gauteng Provincial Government said Lesufi engaged residents on the Gauteng Energy Response Plan as part of the Transformer Replacement Programme in the Emfuleni Local Municipality. He issued an apology to residents of Bophelong who had to spend Christmas in darkness. Lesufi said the area is receiving 19 transformers to mitigate this. The switch-on of transformers is led by City Power Johannesburg, which is the implementing agent. According to the City of Joburg’s Councillor Jack Sekwaila, residents of Boipatong and Bedworthpark were also included in the Transformer Replacement Programme.
