Health Department urges travellers to take precautionary measures against malaria

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Department of Health is urging people travelling to and from malaria-endemic or high-risk areas to take the appropriate precautionary measures to prevent possible infections. Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female mosquitoes. The department’s spokesperson, Foster Mohale, says so far over 7,400 malaria cases have been recorded between January and October in South Africa this year. He says Gauteng alone has recorded 1,105 cases and 10 deaths over this period.
