VAAL TRIANGLE - Annual consumer inflation dropped to 4.7% in July from 5.4% in June. More good news is that food inflation has also eased. The annual rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages was 9.9% in July, lower than June’s 11%. Annual inflation for bread and cereals slowed and maize meal was cheaper in July. Annual meat inflation declined for a fifth consecutive month. The bad news is that the annual rate for milk, eggs and cheese, and hot beverages increased. The prices of sugar, sweets and desserts recorded the highest annual inflation since May 2017. Inflation for alcoholic beverages is also picking up.
