SHARPEVILLE - The Sharpeville SAPS says it is investigating a hijacking case after a man narrowly escaped a violent attack in Market Street, Sharpeville, Vaal Triangle, while dropping off his employees. Sharpeville police spokesperson, Constable Busisiwe Sango, said in a statement the incident occurred when the victim stopped to drop off the last employee. Four unknown African males entered his vehicle. One of the suspects strangled the victim with a shoelace, while the others assaulted him. Sango says despite the brutal attack, the victim managed to escape and sought help from a community member, who took him to the police station to report the incident. It was later discovered that his vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, had been set on fire and reduced to ashes. Police are urging the public to assist with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects by calling the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or using the MySAPS app to report anonymously.
