MEC for cooperative governance, traditional affairs and human settlements to visit Sasolburg today after fire claims the live of 2 people

SASOLBURG - The Zamdela SAPS is investigating a case of inquest after two people, a male and a female, died when a block of flats at Boiketlong flats caught fire on Friday night, 21:00. Three others have been hospitalised. According to preliminary investigation it is alleged that the flats were not used for residential purposes, but were occupied illegally without the owner’s permission. The cause of the fire is still unknown as investigations are ongoing, but according to some witnesses, the flats were engulfed by flames following an alleged gas explosion during a fight between a couple. MEC for cooperative governance, traditional affairs and human settlements, Mr. Saki Mokoena has called on the speedy intervention of all relevant stakeholders to respond to the immediate needs of those who have been left displaced as a result of the fire. MEC Mokoena has undertaken to visit the area to get first-hand information on what has transpired. MEC Mokoena and the executive Mayor of Metsimaholo Municipality, Cllr Jack Malindi were expected to visit the affected families today, 05 August.
