Medical Aid Increases Up to 12.75% Threaten South Africans’ Health

VAAL TRIANGLE - The ATM expressed concern about the rising cost of medical aid contributions and its impact on citizens' well-being. The Council for Medical Schemes has published its recommendations for increases in medical aid contributions in 2026. The party says increases in medical aid premiums that exceed inflation and reach up to 12.75% will further worsen the already fragile situation that many families are facing. The ATM spokesperson, Zama Ntshona, says many South Africans are being forced to downgrade their medical aid plans or abandon them altogether, leaving them without the necessary health cover.
