SASOLBURG - The Metsimaholo Local Municipality is cracking down on illegal water and electricity connections, warning residents of the serious consequences. These unlawful activities not only result in financial losses but also pose major safety risks, including electrocution, fires, and water contamination. Residents are reminded that illegal connections are a criminal offense and will not be tolerated. The municipality says strict enforcement measures has been put in place and warns that first-time offenders will face a hefty fine of R33,410, with repeat violations leading to service disconnections and possible prosecution. According to the municipality, despite a previous amnesty period, the response has been poor, prompting intensified inspections across all communities. Anyone found tampering with municipal infrastructure will face legal action. The Metsimaholo Local Municipality urges residents to legalize their connections and report any illegal activities.
