MEYERTON - Meyerton is set for a major economic uplift as Riverstone Mall, the town’s first formal retail centre, prepares to open in March 2025. Developer Alley Roads says the R370-million development will span 20,000 sqm in its first phase, bringing a variety of retailers and services to the area. This development comes as South Africa’s retail sector experiences strong growth, with November 2024 trade sales increasing by 7.7% year-on-year. Consumer spending has surged, driven by lower inflation, anticipated interest rate cuts, and withdrawals from retirement funds under the two-pot system. Business Tech reports, to combat rising electricity costs, Riverstone Mall will feature a hybrid energy system, including solar panels and battery storage, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and operational savings. As consumer confidence improves, Riverstone Mall is expected to create jobs, boost local businesses, and transform Meyerton into a key shopping destination in Gauteng.
