VAAL TRIANGLE - The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has called on workers at Macsteel to embark on a strike against retrenchments. The union says Macsteel has issued workers with retrenchment letters without conducting consultations. The letters state that the workers will be paid a minimum of one-week wages per completed year of service. The workers strike will start on Friday, and is expected to severely affect the Vaal Triangle. Numsa spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, says the company has displayed arrogance.
